Canoeing is often confused with kayaking, the sport of canoeing, organised at the top level by the International Canoe Federation, ICF even uses the word canoe to cover both Canoes and Kayaks Canoes were one of the first forms of human transport i.e. getting from A to B. These early canoes were dugout canoes, formed out of hollowed logs. In Polynesia, dugout canoes have outriggers for increased stability in the ocean. In North America, canoes were traditionally made from a wood frame covered with the bark from the birch tree, this was then pitched to make it waterproof. Modern canoes are now usually covered with fiberglass or other composites. If you are still confused! and after several heated debates Sanoodi officially regards Canoes as open boats where the paddler faces the direction that they are travelling!
