Ashbourne Duathlon Bike Route
Bike After leaving the transition area turn immediate right up the hill and out of the Sailing Club entrance and turn left onto the main highway. At T-Junction (2.4M) turn left onto Dog Lane and continue until T-junction (3.1M), where cyclists will turn left onto main A517 road towards Belper. Continue for approx 2 miles until Cross 'O' the Hands crossroads (5.4M) and turn left down steep decent please take extra care at this point. The road comes to a T-Junction, which veers left onto the B5023 (6.6M) and onto Wirksworth Road (please slow down at the road surface is not the best at this point). Continue for approx 4 miles over a mini-island before cycling through Wirksworth Market Place (10.7M) and through Pelican crossing. Immediately past petrol station turn left up towards Middleton Top. Upon reaching Middleton Top continue straight on and do not turn left where it is signposted 'Carsington Water' (11.8M). Continue through Middleton Village and down 'Nimble Jack'. This is a windy descent (12%), which requires extreme caution. Please note that cyclists must ensure they stay on the left hand side of the road, as vehicles will be on the roads. At the bottom of Nimble Jack there is a T Junction (13.0M) so competitors are advised to slow down before turning right and then immediate left onto the A5012 (Via Gellia). Continue along the Via Gellia for approx 2 miles until you reach the Hollybush Pub, where you will need to turn left signed Longcliffe. After 2 miles you will reach a crossroads and you will need to turn left towards Brassington. As the road descends into Brassington you will need to take a left hand turn at the top of the hill back towards Wirksworth you will follow this road until you come to a T-junction. At the T junction (19.7M) you will need to stop before turning right onto the B5035 back towards Carsington Water. At the Knockerdown Pub turn left onto the main road leading to Carsington Water and take the 2nd entrance (Sailing Club entrance) and NOT THE MAIN ENTRANCE
